Course will be taught by Greater Boston Interfaith Organization/Metro IAF organizer Kathleen Patron\, along with guest GBIO leaders. \n\nUnderstanding power — How to build power and how to use it to effect change.“The experience profoundly changed my life. I felt powerless and saw others as powerless\, but this training showed me we all have the ability to make change. It gave me hope and life. I realized that other people are waiting to be asked what they care about. When we understand that our interests matter\, that others share them\, that we are not alone\, we can act. Working together\, change can happen.” — Michaiah Healy\, Reservoir Church\n\n\nBroad-based organizing — Broad-based organizing as an alternative to traditional activism. What it means to carve out a specific winnable issue and act strategically to get results.“I learned a lot about myself\, particularly that I don’t give up easily and that’s a good thing. It was helpful to get new insights about how to think strategically and how to identify leaders who can do that.” — Beverly Williams\, Bethel AME\n\n\nUnderstanding leadership — How to develop leadership in ourselves and others. Working together\, change can happen.” — Michaiah Healy\, Reservoir Church\n\n\nBroad-based organizing — Broad-based organizing as an alternative to traditional activism. SUMMARY:Holy Thursday - Potluck & Foot Washing Service
DESCRIPTION: I give you a new commandment\, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you\, you also should love one another.  \nJoin us for a family potluck meal and service. Maundy Thursday\, or Holy Thursday\, gets its name from the Latin translation of John 13:34: “I give you a new commandment” (or\, in Latin\, “Mandatum novum“). It was as Jesus washed the feet of his friends and followers that he said these words. \nWe’ll share a meal together. Then\, Dan Archibald will tell the story of how Jesus washed his disciples’ feet before they shared their last meal together. Next\, we’ll take part in a simple Communion: commemorating this last meal by sharing bread and wine at our tables. Following this\, the children will lead the way in washing the feet of those in attendance. We’ll finish with a final prayer before ending our time together. \nJoin us at 6 PM in the chapel at Reservoir Church. Please bring a dish to share. Children are most welcome.
