SUMMARY:Couples Workshop: From Conflict to Healing Connection
DESCRIPTION:Couples\, strengthen the connection in your relationship with this upcoming Saturday workshop on September 22. Couples & family therapists\, Andrew & Joanna Sonnekalb\, will present three sessions and lead small groups through exercises to help couples move “from conflict to healing connection.” This event is for all couples in committed relationships. The day starts with a light breakfast beginning at 8 AM\, includes a catered lunch and on-site childcare for up to 30 children\, and ends at 2 PM. \nTICKETSCOST: $50/couple\, plus childcare costs ($25/child with a $50/family cap). \nREGISTRATION DEADLINE: Tuesday\, September 18. \nFAQS  \nWhat does my registration fee cover? \nPlease consider your fees as a valuable investment in the health of your relationship. We’ve priced this event to cover our costs which include speaker fees\, catering\, and childcare. That said\, we are unlikely to break even this time. \nWhat if we can’t afford the full registration fees? \nGo ahead and register any way so we’ll have your information. Register by selecting one of the “Pay What You Can” ticket options and pay what you can. \nWhat if we would like to bless another couple by helping pay their registration fee or childcare costs? \nHow lovely. Register yourselves and then also select the “Donation Toward Scholoarships” ticket option to contribute toward a scholarship fund for this event. \nWhat if we or our children have a food allergy or special diet? \nPlease indicate this on your ticket when you register and we will do our best to accommodate you. You can also contact Kim Messenger directly if you have specific concerns. \nWhat will the children’s day be like? \nChildren begin the day with their parents for a light breakfast in the Ministry Center beginning at 8 AM. At 8:30 AM you can check-in your children with the childcare team in the Ministry Center. The adult program will start promptly at 9 AM in the sanctuary\, so please give yourselves enough time for travel and drop off. Babies and young toddlers will be looked after by childcare workers in room 101 of the Ministry Center. Preschoolers and older children will hang out for indoor activities in the second floor Ministry Center classrooms and outdoor fun on the playground\, if the weather cooperates. We’ll serve the children morning and afternoon snacks and a pizza lunch in the Ministry Center. You’ll want to send diaper bags\, food\, bottles\, and sippy cups for babies and toddlers. All childcare workers–paid and volunteer–will have been background checked\, and we’ll have a system in place should they need to page you during the event. \nThat said\, it’s a long day for the kids. \nWe can only accommodate 30 children on a first registered first served basis. If you think your child would be happier in his or her familiar home environment\, we encourage you to make your own arrangements for childcare in your home. \nWhat if my partner and I discover we want further help for our relationship from a trained professional? \nWe will have a referral list of couples and family therapists you may contact for appointments. \nSTILL HAVE QUESTIONS? Contact: Kim Messenger at kim@reservoirchurch.org. \nTICKETS

SUMMARY:Reservoir's Healthy Couples Class: Fall 2018
DESCRIPTION:Sign Up This seven-week group aims to help couples build healthy\, joyful relationships that will grow and strengthen over a lifetime. Each Sunday evening\, Steve and Grace\, or a guest couple\, will share some experiences and ideas and answer questions. Couples will then have the opportunity to talk privately about the evening’s topic. The topics\, stories\, and workshops will be geared toward seriously dating\, engaged\, and newly married couples. \nReservoir’s Jesus-centered\, inclusive faith will inform the teaching\, but no religious experience or commitment is necessary. The only cost to the class will be the price of any materials\, around $10-$20 at the most. We will meet Sundays from 6:30-8:30 in the Reservoir Church ministry center\, September 30 through November 18. We will not meet on Sunday\, October 28. \nTrained as a musician and educator\, Steve is senior pastor of Reservoir Church. Trained in psychology and counseling\, Grace is the director of a social service program with the Brookline Housing Authority. They have been married for over twenty years and have three pre-teen and teenage children.

On 10/22 we’ll meet political power with people power\, gathering with other people of faith to hold November election candidates accountable to our shared public concerns. Arrive at 6:30 PM\, the event starts at 7.  \nMore than 1250 people of many faith traditions\, ethnicities\, and walks of life\, all part of the 44+ GBIO member congregations and organizations\, will come together as one to give public voice to common concerns for justice\, and to call on those seeking or holding public office to commit to real change in these areas: \n  \nAffordable\, Accessible Healthcare and Affordable Homeownership  \nExamining the impending Beth Israel-Lahey Clinic merger\, impartial studies show a $250 million annual cost to Massachusetts residents. There is a small window of time to negotiate conditions to assure affordability and accessibility. Now is that time. Attorney General Maura Healey and Governor Charlie Baker hold the keys and have been invited to join us. Will they be there? Gubernatorial candidate Gonzalez will be there to address both housing and healthcare issues. Stay tuned. \n  \nCriminal Justice Reform \nWe know that DA’s make a difference. Now\, the Suffolk County DA race has heated up with opposing views offered by candidates Rachael Rollins and Michael Maloney. Who remains committed to the reforms they promised us at our August Action? Attorney Rollins will join us; Attorney Maloney has been invited. Stay tuned. \n  \nJeep Jones Park  \nDangerous conditions at the Jeep Jones park and playground in Roxbury make it unsafe for the ISBCC Somali families who use it. The Parks Commissioner has been invited to meet with all of us to address this situation. Stay tuned. \n  \nProtect Immigrant Families \nWe are outraged by the injustice of separating immigrant families and the effect on all immigrant children\, particularly U.S. citizen children of undocumented immigrant parents. Will Massachusetts take the lead in changing this inhumane and costly policy through lawsuits brought by states Attorneys General? Standing with sister Metro-IAF organizations\, GBIO seeks to engage Attorney General Maura Healey with this issue. She has been invited to join us to hear our concerns and respond to our questions.
