Asha Reception | Transforming Lives in Delhi
September 15 @ 4:00 pm - 5:30 pm
You are invited to: A Reception to Learn About the Work of Asha.
Asha is transforming urban slum communities in Delhi, India. Working in 91 slum communities, and impacting over 700,000 people, Asha tackles all the issues that can keep slum dwellers trapped in poverty. The programs help slum residents gain access to healthcare, financial services and education, and make it possible for them to make long-term, positive changes to their lives.
At this reception Dr. Kiran Martin, founder and director of Asha, will speak, as will one of Asha’s ambassadors, a former resident of one of Asha’s slum communities, who has graduated from college, and is now working professionally and changing the trajectory of her family’s story.
This event will include hors d’oeuvres and an invitation to consider joining Asha’s mailing list and contributing to their work financially, at any level. There will also be a short performance by the highly acclaimed world-jazz ensemble, the Natraj Duo, which blends Indian classical and West African traditional musics with contemporary jazz, creating a tapestry of exotic textures, accessible melodies, and infectious rhythms. The Natraj Duo features the raga-influenced soprano saxophone of Phil Scarff and the tabla and multipercussion mastery of Jerry Leake.
